Banff Lake Louise Alberta Activities We encourage our guests to explore our incredible National Park environment. For guests wishing to explore the park on foot there are literally hundreds of fabulous trails each of which as a unique experience. Our staff, managers and owners have hiked most of these trails and would love to make a recommendation to you.

For the visitor who has a limited time frame to explore the park, you may wish to view the park using some rather unique exploration vehicles. While staying with us you can choose from helicopters, snow coaches, gondolas, jet boats, ATV's, canoes, river rafts, and other forms of transportation. All these activities combine a unique experience based on the unique World Heritage Site you are visiting. Again, our reservation and front desk staff will be happy to make a reservation for you and prepare a daily itinerary.

1. Guided Hiking: Half day hikes offered daily (approximately 3 - 4 hours long), departing from Moraine Lake Lodge, with routes alternating between:

  • a. Larch Valley - alpine valley with spectacular mountain lakes and streams nestled in a forest of magnificent larch trees.
  • b. Consolation Valley - Consolation Lake is surrounded by glaciers, spectacular Rocky Mountains and avalanche scree slopes. On the trail you will see 10 - 20 varieties of alpine mushrooms, spectacular colors of Indian Paint Brush (flower), and many varieties of alpine flowers.
  • c. Both hikes are considered moderate.
  • Rate: $39/person
  • SPACE IS LIMITED, ADVANCE RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED

2. Great Divide Nature Interpreters (Guided Hikes):

  • Hiking against the dramatic backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, you will discover the stories behind the scenery of Lake Louise and Banff National Park.
  • With Great Divide you will see more and understand more. Not only will you will encounter plants, animals and processes you would have otherwise missed, you'll appreciate the big picture - how they work together and why they are important.

  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.
  • Also, join us in our Library 3 nights a week to watch the highly entertaining and educational complimentary shows put on by Great Divide.

3. Canoeing on Moraine Lake:
available to all Moraine Lake Lodge guests on a complimentary basis. Participate in an activity that has been ongoing in Banff National Park for over 100 years!! Canoe dock is open daily from 10:00AM to 7:00PM.

  • Plan 60 - 90 minutes for one trip, activity is considered moderate.

 

 

4. Canyonjet Safari Tours: explore the spectacular Columbia River by jetboat. An onboard naturalist will entertain and educate you while touring through some of the most beautiful terrain in Canada. Allow 2 hours travel time from Moraine Lake Lodge.

  • Rates: $89.95/adult and $69.95/youth (ages 6-18)
  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED, BOAT LEAVES THE DOCK AT 2:00 PM.

5. Icefield Helicopter Tours: What better way to explore the Canadian Rockies than by helicopter? View pristine alpine meadows, streams and glaciers. Guests will be overwhelmed by the sheer majesty of the surroundings. Truly spectacular- a can't miss!!

  • Tours leave the base every half hour between 7:00am and 10:30pm. Allow 2 hours travel from Moraine Lake Lodge.
  • Rate: $149/person
  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

6. River Rafting: An exciting activity that is sure to bring a smile to your face and a memory not to be forgotten. The rafts are launched just outside Yoho National Park into the Kicking Horse River, 75 minutes from Moraine Lake Lodge.

  • Rate: $89/person (includes transportation from Lake Louise)
  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

7. Horseback Rides: Trail rides begin at Lake Louise. Choose a trip to either of the unique tea houses located in the area.

  • Rate $75 for trip to Lake Agnes Tea House, many other trips available.
  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

8. Snow Coach Tours: The unique snow coaches take you onto the Columbia Glacier, which covers 325 square kilometers, one of the largest accumulations of snow and ice south of the Arctic Circle.

  • Rate: $33.95/adult and $17.00/youth (ages 6-15)
  • RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

9. Golf: Enjoy a round of golf at one of BC's "Top 30" golf courses. Four courses available within 90 minutes from Moraine Lake Lodge.

  • Rate: $80/person including cart rental

10. Lake Louise Gondola: located approximately 20 minutes from Moraine Lake Lodge, the gondola takes visitors to an elevation of 6850 feet. View grizzlies during the June 1-20 period as they feed on wild flowers, and in August, when they feed on wild berries.

  • Rate: $23.00/adult and $11.50/youth (ages 6-15)
